Welcome to Dual Enrollment

Welcome to Perry High School and Dual Enrollment!  We are excited about the upcoming year and all the college credit classes we offer to Perry students.

Chandler Gilbert Community College (CGCC) partners with East Valley high schools to offer Dual Enrollment (DE) credit for academic and occupational classes.  Dual Enrollment courses are held on the Perry campus and are taught by our high school instructors who have met community college qualifications. Students earn college credits at the same time as they earn their high school credits. With Dual Enrollment credit offerings, we strive to ease the transition from high school to college, to increase the number of college-bound students in our community, and enable our students to earn community college credits while in high school.

One of the ten Maricopa Community Colleges, Chandler-Gilbert Community College, is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and is a member of the North Central Association (NCA).

For high school students, Dual Enrollment:

  • Eliminates potential duplication of advanced/honors high school courses and introductory/survey college courses.
  • Provides access to CGCC libraries, as well as remote library access for research databases.
  • Allows students to complete credits that apply towards their general education requirements, letting them focus on courses within their major area of study when they enroll at a university.
  • Provides a cost-effective head start on a college education, enabling students to earn a four-year degree in as little as three years.
  • Allows students to know how their college credits will transfer (instead of the transferability being dependent on an advanced placement test score).

For high schools, Dual Enrollment:

Opens a dialogue and enhances collaboration between the high school and the community college faculty.

  • Improves high school retention and graduation rates. For college-bound students, this impact is most evident during the student’s senior year when they elect to remain on the high school campus to earn Dual Enrollment college credit rather than opt for early dismissal.
  • Encourages students to develop themselves academically due to prerequisites/skills needed for entrance into certain college classes.
  • Expands the high school curriculum by delivering courses via the community college curriculum that high schools might not offer.
  • Encourages professional growth among high school teachers, as they must earn a master's degree in a major field of study to meet the criteria to teach a community college class.
  • Provides an opportunity for high school Dual Enrollment faculty to become adjunct faculty for the community college

Check out the The Course Equivalency Guide (CEG) on the AZ Transfer link. It shows how courses transfer from community college to ASU, NAU and U of A.

**Be aware that the transferability of a course does not indicate how the course will apply to meet requirements  or specific bachelor's degrees.

Dear Dual Enrollment Students and Parents,

Perry High School DE teachers will assist students with the registration process and provide information through their respective classes once school begins in July. The application process is done completely online, and students may begin to register beginning August 1st. The process is different for new and returning students; please follow the link based on the status of your student.

Perry High Schoolprovides many DE offerings. We do not anticipate any changes to this list of courses and instructors; however, change is always possible.  Please use this link as a guide for your student's schedule and DE credit availability as well as the pre-requisites required for students to enroll in the various DE classes.

In most cases, Juniors and Seniors may use their PHS unweighted GPA orpassing ACT/SAT scores to meet the pre-requisite requirements for DE classes.

Underclassmen (Freshman, Sophomore) must meet the pre-requirements needed for DE by testing with EdReady.  EdReady is a placement test that can be taken online in the student's home.  Dual Enrollment will use four possible Ed Ready placement tests:

EdReady English is used for ENG101.

EdReady Quantitative Reasoning, Alg and Stats Placement is for placement into MAT140, MAT141, or MAT142.
EdReady College Algebra Placement is for placement into MAT150, MAT151, MAT152 and MAT187.

EdReady Critical Reading and Critical Thinking is used to participate in the Dual Enrollment Program (if you have no other testing) and BIO181.

Once new students (and underclassmen) have registered for CGCC, they may take the appropriate EdReady tests.

  • If you have questions regarding what DE courses to take for a future career path or what colleges will accept CGCC credits, your best contact is your PHS counselor or the CGCC advisor for Perry High School.
  • If you have any questions that are specific to the college and the registration process, please call the DE office at CGCC #480-732-7006.
  • If you have any general questions that are specific to Perry High and DE, please contact Mr. Beauer, Perry DE liaison #480-224-2833 or Beauer.Clint@cusd80.com
