The purpose of Perry Pom and Cheer is to represent Perry High School, promote and generate interest, enthusiasm, support and pride in athletic teams, events, traditions, and Perry High School, pursue competitive excellence, and be a positive role model in/out of uniform and on/off-campus.

- We are a competitive program
- If you transfer for the new school year then you will tryout in July
- If you transferred to PHS during the school year you may tryout in April/May
- Check our website frequently for updates

- Pom and Cheer is a class period- we do also have additional practices throughout the week
- Our class practices run 6:30am-1st hour
- Pom and Cheer counts as a PE credit
- There will be a MANDATORY parent meeting prior to tryouts
- There will be a MANDATORY post tryout meeting if you make the team
- Freshman can make higher squads on cheer, freshman can only make game day pom
- You must be cleared through register my athlete before tryouts
- Pom and Cheer is a year-long sport
- There are outside of school hour practices
- Our Pom and Cheer teams have high expectations of our athletes.
- Pom and Cheer is expensive!! BUT we fundraise!
- Pom and Cheer is hard work, but A LOT of fun!

Two bhs to tuck required
Round off back handspring layout required
Variety tumbling encouraged
Advanced stunting skills (Heel Stretch full down, 360s to the top/ 1.5s, various inversion & release skills (back handspring ups/ hand to hands, switch up full ups etc.)
Exemplary Jumps including Jumps series to tuck/ bhs tuck
Dance and Cheer with Proper Motions (Clean and Sharp)
Exemplary Fitness test score-Fitness test may consist of a timed mile, sprints, sit-ups, and push-ups
JV Cheer
Standing two back handsprings Required
Roundoff back handspring tuck required
Intermediate Stunt skills (Extension full down, Liberty Cradle, 360 to the top, round off ups etc.)
Jumps and Jumps to standing back handspring/ bhs series
Dance and Cheer with proper motions (Clean and Sharp!)

Freshman Cheer:

Standing tuck and round off back handspring series or preferred.

Competitive Game Day:
Collegiate style sharp motions, with proper motion placement. Genuine enthusiasm. Clean variety of jumps with proper technique. Standing tuck preferred.
Time Commitment:
All Perry Pom and Cheer athletes are required to cheer at all home football games as well as girls' and boys' home basketball games. Varsity squads will also travel to away football games. All squads could travel for the basketball playoffs. There will be other MSE's (Mandatory Spirit Events) such as practices, assemblies, parades, fundraisers, competitions, and team events that will be worth points toward their spiritline class grade. Cheer is a heavy time committment to be compared to having a part time job.

Cheer Skill requirements
Cheer Skill requirements:
*All squads will need to perform a dance, a cheer, jumps, a jump sequence, and complete a fitness test (Fitness test may consist of a timed mile, sprints, and push-ups). Stunting and tumbling will be part of the evaluation process. Additionally, academic eligibility will be evaluated based on recommendation letters and grades. All forms must be completed and submitted online through Aktivate (formally Register My Athlete).
1. You will need to sign up or log in to Aktivate (Be sure to use Google Chrome, Firefox or Safari). Fall sports including Badminton, Cross Country, Flag Football, Football, Golf, Freshman/Transfer Pom and Cheer, Swim/Dive, Freshman Tennis, Unified Sports, Girls Volleyball, and Boys Beach Volleyball will open on July 1, 2025. Winter Sports including Basketball, Soccer and Wrestling will open September 2, 2025. Spring Sports including Baseball, Softball, Tennis, Track and Field, Girls Beach Volleyball and Boys Volleyball will open January 6, 2026.
2. AIA Annual Pre-Participation Physical Examination Form (1 page doctor form - must be completed after March 1, 2025). Note - If you are using Telemed, you still must get a doctor's actual signature or an electronic signature and doctor's office stamp. Electronic signatures only will not be accepted.

8. All athletes must have medical insurance. If you do not have personal insurance, you can purchase K & K School Accident Insurance. Please click here for more information.
9. Unified Sports Participant Release Form (only needed if you are participating in Unified Sports)
10. For 2025-26 Non-cut sports (Cross Country, Football, Wrestling, Track, and Unified Sports) must download their Activity Fee Payment receipt to Register My Athlete. This can be paid at the Bookstore or through Infinite Campus. You can also designate this as part of your Arizona Tax Credit to Public Schools. NOTE: Fees will not be refunded if the student decides not to participate or quits the team.

Please consider a tax credit donation to Perry High School Athletics or the sport of your choice. Your tax credit donation directly supports PHS athletes by allowing us to enhance our athletic programs through the purchase of athletic equipment/supplies, uniforms and coaching support.
Athletic participation fees at PHS range between $60 and $100 per participant. The fees are non-refundable but can be claimed as a Public-School Tax credit on AZ state income taxes. Fees can be paid online via credit card through the Infinite Campus Parent Portal or by cash or check at the PHS Bookstore. Thank you for your support of PHS!
